ELEMENTS AND THE PERIODIC TABLE

Overview: In this unit students will begin to unravel the complexities of the periodic table. We will look at the major groups of elements: metals, nonmetals, and metalloids and compare/contrast the properties of the elements in each grouping. Students will also memorize the names and chemical symbols of some common elements. All of this learning will be extended in 8th grade science where students will examine the periodic table in more detail and learn more about the structure of the atom.
